An installer in hi-vis fixing a black solar panel onto a pitched roof

The solar company that would rather say no

DB Energy designs, installs and looks after solar and battery systems for homes and businesses. We have been doing it since 2022. We are small, we are careful, and we have turned down more work than most companies our size will admit to.

Why we say no

Solar is sold badly in this country. Not everywhere, and not by everyone, but often enough that people have learned to be wary. They have been told a system will pay for itself in three years. They have been quoted a headline price that turned out to be for a smaller system than they needed. They have been promised savings nobody measured.

We do not do that, and we would rather explain why than just claim it.

We will not tell you what a system will save you until we have looked at your actual electricity use and designed something for your roof. That is not caution for its own sake. Our trade body, RECC, requires that any savings estimate we give is written down, based on how you really use energy, and clear about its assumptions. We think that is the right rule. It also happens to be the rule.

We will not sell you a battery bigger than you need, because an oversized battery costs more and works no harder. We will not clean solar panels that do not need cleaning, and we will tell you when yours do not.

If that sounds like a company that talks itself out of sales, it sometimes is. It is also why the people who do buy from us tend to come back, and tend to send their neighbours.

What we actually do

Three things, and we try to do each of them properly.

We install solar and batteries for homes.

Mostly across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, mostly on ordinary houses, mostly for people who want a smaller bill and are not sure who to trust. We design each system for the roof and the household in front of us rather than picking from a menu.

We install solar and battery storage for businesses and farms.

Warehouses, factories, offices, agricultural buildings and clubs, with battery storage as well as solar. Some of it is bought outright, and some is paid for in other ways that lower the upfront cost on suitable sites. We will tell you which makes sense for you, and we will not pretend any one route suits everyone.

We look after solar systems, including ones we did not install.

Servicing, fault-finding, repairs, inverter replacement, panel cleaning and bird proofing. This is the part of the industry most installers neglect once the system is switched on, and it is the part where a small, local, accountable company earns its keep.

How the work gets done

We are a small company and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Every job is designed by us and signed off by us.

The installation itself is carried out by teams we have worked with for years, under our accreditation and our supervision. You will know who is coming to your property and what they are there to do before they arrive, and the person you spoke to at the start is the person responsible at the end. You are not passed from a salesperson to a crew you have never met.

Our cleaning and maintenance work is delivered together with Pristine Panels, a specialist cleaning company we work alongside so closely that customers rarely notice the join. We hold the electrical accreditations and sign off every job. They bring the equipment and the experience of doing nothing but this. Two specialists working as one is, we think, a better arrangement than one company claiming to be expert at everything.

Where we are certified, and where we are not

We would rather list what we can prove than show a row of logos.

MCS certified for solar PV and battery storage

Certificate NIC-601172 · issued through NICEIC

This is the certification that matters most: it is normally required for your system to qualify for Smart Export Guarantee payments, and it means our installations are inspected against a national standard.

Where we work

We are based in Warrington, and we install in homes across the whole of the North West: Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and into Lancashire, and up to around 100 miles beyond. Commercial, agricultural and servicing work takes us much further, and we already work in Scotland, Wales, London, the Midlands and the North East. If you are unsure whether we cover you, ring and ask. We will tell you straight rather than send someone on a wasted journey.

The one thing we get animated about

Ask Tony what the best-kept secret in home energy is and you will not hear about carbon or the future. You will hear about the price of electricity at three in the morning.

On some tariffs, overnight electricity costs a fraction of what it costs in the day. A battery, filled from the grid while you sleep, can run your house through the expensive hours whatever the weather has done to your panels. It works on solar that is already on your roof. Most people who own solar have no idea it is possible.

That is the sort of thing we would rather talk to you about.

Not slogans. Mechanisms. Things that actually change the number on your bill.

If you want a straight answer

Send us your last electricity bill and a photo of your roof, or of the system you already have. We will tell you what we think, including if what we think is that you should not spend the money.

We reply to every enquiry within two working days.
